General Pests

Spider Control

Spiders play an essential role in the ecosystem by keeping insect populations balanced.
Most spiders lay their eggs in a silk sack (up to 1,000 eggs), and live for around 1-2 years.
They have no spine and shed their skins as they grow.

Guardian Pest Control Pty Ltd treat homes, offices and factories for spider control, internally and externally. We recommend treating around windows, doors, under eaves, pergolas, washing lines and fences.
Treating spiders on an annual basis prevents them from becoming a nuisance.

Ant Control

Ants play an important role in the ecosystem by breaking down plant material and refining soil.

Ants are found in nests in the garden, however they often move indoors, making nests in walls and ceilings, causing problems with electrical wiring and generally being pests! Even the cleanest homes can attract ants in large numbers.

Infestations can be reduced significantly by limiting food residue around the house and cleaning up excess food left out for pets. Annual baiting and spraying affected areas keeps them under control.

Bed Bugs

Bed Bugs

Bed Bugs are prevalent in hotels, motels and buildings where sleeping facilities exist. They are carried into your home on clothing, luggage, second hand furniture and other items, but not on people themselves. They get into your bed and feed on you during the night causing severe irritation as a result of the bites.

Our qualified technicians will locate where they are hiding, for example cracks in bed bases, bed heads, bedside tables, floors, walls and mattresses, and will chemically treat these areas eliminating the problem. All linen, clothing, wall hangings and curtains must be washed thoroughly.

Bees

swarm in spring and summer and can be aggressive and frightening. They often stay for a day or so then move off to a new location. Often they will make a new hive inside the wall cavities or roof void of your home. Dusting and spraying by our qualified technicians is the only way to eliminate them, however the holes must be blocked or the honeycomb removed from the wall cavity when the hive is dead or robber bees will quickly move in.
Bee Control
Borer Borer
Borers are the larvae of various species of wood eating beetle and can damage timber flooring and internal woodwork in your home. Treatment can be by chemical spray or directly to the infected area.
Carpet Beetle live in dark, undisturbed areas of your home. Larvae often feed up to 9 months on your carpet, however adults are mostly pollen and nectar feeders. Carpet Beetle are usually brought into the home on cut flowers and then look for an egg-laying site, i.e. your carpet! Prefering materials of animal origin, they also eat wool, fur, hair, silk, fabrics, carpets, rugs, underfelts, fibre-type insulating material, and also some dried food items.

Thorough vacuuming of carpet areas, followed by a chemical treatment to areas of infestation will eliminate Carpet Beetle.
Carpet Beetle
Cockroaches Cockroaches are capable of transmitting pathogenic diseases to humans. They are nocturnal and like to roam our kitchens at night, resting during the day in cracks and crevices, electrical appliances and foodstuffs. If you find a cockroach during the day, you may have a serious problem. Left unchecked they can rapidly breed and become a major risk to health and family.

Prevention - store food in sealed containers to reduce accessibility by cockroaches; keep garbage in sealed containers prior to collectio; regularly inspect motors of washing machines and refrigerators, and areas under stoves and dishwashers; vacuum floors regularly; fill in cracks in walls and cupboards to prevent cockroach access.
Clothes Moths are frequently encountered in coastal regions and are widely known for the damage they may cause to woollens, fur, felts and other materials of animal origin.

Clothing affected by clothes moths should be washed or wrapping in black plastic and left in the sun for a few hours. Chemical treatments should be applied to clothing storage areas.
Clothes Moths
Earwigs Earwigs are mostly nocturnal and favour damp, confined spaces outside your home. Occasionally they will invade houses but are generally not considered a pest.

Ocassionally earwigs invade the home but are not considered nasty pests. Heavy infestations can occur and are easily treated with a chemical spray.
European wasp nests are usually found in the ground, tree stumps, wall cavities and roof voids. When disturbed or agitated they can sting their victim several times, and the sting is very painful. Crawling into soft drink or beer cans they can inject venom inside a persons throat, if swallowed, causing massive swelling and possible suffocation. European Wasps
fleas Fleas are a parasite feeding on the blood of warm blooded animals and humans. Causing acute irritation and infection and sometimes transferring other parasites, such as tapeworms. Fleas are one of the most significant conveyers of diseases to humans and some animals. They are usually a problem with cats and dogs, who deposit them in our carpets.

Regular vacumming of carpets and floors (disposing of the vacuum bags immediately) and washing pets with shampoo containing flea control products will help to eliminate this problem. However, in severe cases pest control spraying of all floors and carpets would need to be carried out.
Flies transmit more than 65 pathogenic organisms. Usually breeding away from kitchens in garbabe dumps they present a bit problem to human health during daylight hours when more foods are exposed and handled. Quick disposal of garbage and wastes is important in fly control. Flies
Millipedes Millipedes generally feed on organic matter, usually vegetable. Although not harmful to humans they can occur in plague numbers, invading houses, contaminating food and infesting carpet and bedding. When disturbed they can release a pungent yellowish secretion that may stain skin or clothing and irritate if rubbed into eyes.
Moths Seasonal bogon moths are obvious to everybody but may also be indicative of an infesation of carpet beetle or case making clothes moths. For the latter expert advice is needed. Moths
Scorpions Scorpions are usually not dangerous in Australia, however they should be regarded as potentially toxic until the species is identified by an qualified pest technician. Prefering to live in the garden, wood piles and tanbark, they are usually bought into the home on wood for the fireplace.
Silverfish prefer to live in dark quiet places and are most active during the night, prefering to eat paper, fabric, glues and other organic materials, and also most types of human food. Silverfish are often bought into the home in second-hand books and papers. Silverfish
Slaters Slaters are usually nocturnal feeding on decaying vegetable matter or young plants. They are often found in wet areas of homes as they depend on moisture to keep the oxygen-absorbing gills under their bodies moist.
Springtails (Collembola) are one of the main biological agents responsible for the control and dissemination of soil microorganisms. Springtails are a wingless insect that range in length from 1 to 10 mm. Found in all types of soil and leaf litter, they thrive in moist, dark places and feed on decaying plant matter and fungi. When found outside they serve as an important part of the ecological system and cause no harm to plants. When found inside, they flock to bathrooms, crawl spaces and soil of potted plants.
To deter Springtails from invading inside your home, keep mulch and compost piles away from the house as the moisture and dead plant matter attract them.
